I'm honored to work with some of the most amazingly talented and supportive artisans and small businesses in the Pittsburgh area. These folks constantly inspire me and I feel a little like Oprah Winfrey over here sharing my favorite things with all of you. Long before I started creating curated gift boxes I was a fan and patron of each of these rock star makers and shakers.
A. Marsden Artwork
Araina Marsden creates stunning ceramic pieces of art that you can drink from. Her handmade travel mugs etched with the Pittsburgh skyline are a unique way to show your Pittsburgh pride...and meet new friends. Plan to be stopped often when carrying this mug because everyone will want to know where you got it!
*And bonus: she’s like a little wizard who makes her one of a kind art pieces not just beautiful, but also dishwasher and microwave safe. Can’t say that about the Mona Lisa.
Christina's passion for honey and her bees is palpable in every conversation with her. There's so much to learn about the humane treatment of bees and all of the ways to coax different flavors from the honey. Well loved bees produce the best honey and this honey is the best you'll ever have.
*Kenyan Chai honey is featured in The Slow Tea Experience gift box, Apoidea Apiary donates a portion of the profits from the sale of this honey to support the education of new beekeepers in Kenya.
black ship grooming co.
We're so lucky that Kelly agreed to make his gorgeous hand-carved wooden honey dippers for The Slow Tea Experience gift set. Kelly started out creating honey dippers and pens under his BeaverWoodwright moniker, today he keeps busy bringing his old world craftsmanship to creating hand-carved shaving supplies. A true renaissance man.
buttercup and thistle
Emily of Buttercup and Thistle is one hard-working Mama (and one of my original Maker crushes!) It's hard to pick just one thing to rave about here. From her super fun packaging to her fabulous handcrafted scents like Moroccan Fig, Tomato Leaf, and Cream Cheese Frosting, to her Instagram feed that reads like a coffee table art book, there is plenty to gush about.
Kristi named her cafe after a Czechoslovakian dessert, but it’s her Italian baking chops that are the star of The Slow Tea Experience gift box. You are guaranteed to obsess over her biscotti once you have tried them. Prepare to be haunted by a cookie and wake in the night whispering it’s name...surely that’s not just me.
As a self-proclaimed coffee snob, I am super excited to be able to share one of my personal faves in the Caffeinated in Pittsburgh gift box. The folks at Commonplace Coffee, in addition to being very well caffeinated, love what they do and all of the people who do it with them. Commonplace Coffee is a must-give to any coffee lover in your life.
Nicole is a super fun and hardworking woman. Her luxurious body care line is creative and handmade. It features unique products like her solid lotions with moisturizing ingredients like beeswax, coconut oil, shea butter and essential oils.
finleyville flower shop
Cindy at the Finleyville Flower Shop is a true artist with flowers. Her love and passion for flowers comes through in every unique design and she was the perfect partner in choosing the stunning air plants featured in the Lazy Lavender Afternoons spa box. Definitely check out her Wine and Design classes the next time you're looking for a fun date night or twist on a happy hour.
leaf & Twig
There is so much to love about this tea company and the badass woman behind it. As a certified health coach, student of herbal medicine and an artist, Melissa creates hand-blended teas and tisanes that taste amazing and nourish our bodies. Life sustaining and flavorful, this is some good-for-you goodness that you'll want to drink every day.
lux artisan chocolates
Chocolatiers are like sweet magicians. The flavor that they coax out of cocoa beans is beyond anything you can find in a mass produced chocolate bar. The magicians at Lux create their chocolates in small batches using no preservatives and local ingredients to make some truly luxurious chocolate bars. I CAN NOT stop talking about the milk chocolate bar with pistachio, toffee, and sea salt, a true indulgence of the smoothest, salty, chocolatey perfection. Find it in the Caffeinated in Pittsburgh gift box.
north ave candles
Amanda at North Ave Candles is all that and a bag of chips. She’s just a badass, hardworking woman and endlessly supportive of everyone in the handmade community. What started as a hobby has turned into a thriving candle business. Amanda is unmatched in creating unusual and perfectly paired scent combinations. You'll find not one but TWO of her most relaxing scent combinations in the Lazy Lavender Afternoons gift box.
Tupelo honey teas
Danielle at Tupelo Honey Teas is the queen bee of flavors. Stop in at her shop and cafe in Millvale and marvel at her beautiful blending room with it's shelves of teas, herbs, flowers and flavors. What she has created in her cozy little tea nook in Millvale is truly spectacular, you'll just want to tuck in with a good book (maybe one from the adjoining Millvale Public Library) and a cuppa for a long, lazy afternoon. Be prepared to stay awhile, there is plenty of tea to try.
Lastly (or firstly, since it's really the first thing in the box), each of our gift boxes is stuffed with shredded paper scraps from Sapling Press, a fabulous local letterpress, design and print shop. Their cards, mugs, notebooks and other gifts full of sarcastic, witty and fabulous truths are a slight obsession of mine. I'm thrilled that we were able to work together to give some of their scraps of genius new life as decorative fill in these gift boxes.
